Innsbruck: Where the golden roof glistens on a cloudy day
It wasn’t raining at 10am, when we caught the free bus from outside the campsite, but it looked like it was very threatening so we were suitably dressed. The bus took us into Netters village and still using our free bus ticket we caught the second bus into Innsbruck bus station.
We walked into the town and saw the golden roofed house built by Frederick the fourth in 1420 and then onto the St James Cathedral which is very Gothic and baroque. The ceiling had amazing frescoes and stuccoes, we just stood and stared. The north wing was very badly bombed in 1944, but has been restored just as it was originally.
It was a really grey day and after lunch and a further meander around the town we caught the bus back to Netters village and then the shuttle bus to the campsite. It came down to rain whilst we were on the bus, which was a pity, as the scenery would have been spectacular if it had not been raining and there were no clouds.
