Venice.

Typical Venice Canal Scene

Typical Venice Canal Scene

Whilst we were waiting for the new fuse-box for the motorhome, we took advantage of our time with Lara to visit Venice in Italy. The ferry port at Punto Sabbioni on the Lido di Jesolo is just a short distance from Camping Miramare and having purchased a three day ticket which entitles us to hop on and off buses and water buses/ferries, we planned to take full advantage of them.

The ferry took us to near St Marks Square and we took another one down the Grand Canal to near to the Peggy Guggenheim Museum, our first stop of the day. Lara adores this museum and has visited it many times. It was a fascinating building which had been Peggy’s own home, where she entertained on a grand scale. The place is filled with modern art which Bernard and I just do not understand at all.  We did appreciate some of the art and sculptures, but completely puzzled by most of the exhibits. All part of our education though and a worthwhile visit.

We then made our way through the narrow turnings and over the bridges of small canals to the Fortuny Museum only to find it closed as it was preparing for the Venice Biennial Art Festival. Most disappointing.

Lara decided to go her separate way as we were too slow for her.  Bernard and I like to meander around taking in the architecture and ambiance.

We met up later in the day to take the ferry back to the campsite, completely exhausted.
